Laurent Vaginay, and Kévin Laussu, historian of Malaye architecture! Patrimoines, present this authentic country property and its park located between Dax and the Ocean in the Landes.
In the heart of an authentic airial of more than 6000m² preserved stands this traditional Landes half-timbered house of more than 170m2 and its guest house of more than 30m2. It was already listed on the Napoleonic land registry of 1806. Although it is not mentioned on the Cassini map (), its antiquity seems to be established for more remote periods (certainly at the end of the eighteenth century). This dating could be corroborated by the presence of wrought iron bars sealed in the window recesses, whose "thorn" profile is typical of rural dwellings of character of this period.
Looking to the west, the square house has a symmetrical tripartite façade. Placed in the central axis, the entrance is flanked by small windows. This device is found in the architecture of several notable houses in the country.
This house has some interesting ornamental specificities for the locality. First of all, the materials that make up the main façade are mixed. The ground floor is slab with brick and daurel, while the first floor is made of cob. The presence of bricks arranged in a fishbone and herringbone pattern marks an undeniable ornamental preoccupation that distinguishes this farm from other surrounding rural buildings, mainly made of cob. This aesthetic care is reflected in the decoration of the armpits, whose scalloped pattern is recalled under the lintel of the door.
All these elements attest to the character of this house and the situation of the owners who occupied it.
Inside, the house is subdivided into three bays: a central living room, a dining room on one side opening onto the kitchen, and a living room opening on the other side onto a bedroom and an adjoining shower room. The first floor has a spacious living room and two bedrooms with a bathroom.
Of the four wooden outbuildings that existed in 1806, only a barn remains today. The right-of-way formerly occupied by one of these buildings has been reused to build a small Landes-style chalet built entirely from old pieces of wood assembled in the traditional way.
Open on the edge of the pines, the Airial Park is surrounded by fields. It is planted with coniferous trees, hundred-year-old oaks and mimosas.
The entire house has been restored four times in the 1990s and more recently with great attention taking care to preserve the authenticity of the place. Preserving the original layout, this renovation has made it possible to consolidate the cob and the terracotta tiles. It has made it possible to highlight this notable element of the local heritage.
