The capital of the Duchy of Nevers was proud, among other charming monuments, of a monastic abbey house of Saint-Martin in its flourishing park, which became the Hôtel de la Rochefoucauld, replaced by the current building in 1923, pouring out an opulence of luxurious materials of the best French know-how, in a surprising Art Deco style and lines, on surfaces of more than 4000 m²!
Wrought iron in volutes, mosaics of Briare tiles, dressed stone, travertine, marble, copper, oak and pitchpin woodwork, trompe-l'oeil...
If the site no longer defends your money, you can invest it in one of the fabulous projects possible in this extraordinary place: restaurant, hosting "high-flying" seminars? Everything will be well guarded by armored doors or secret offices, in volumes defying... all comfort.
Everything can be easily fitted out for contemporary use.
1. The semi-underground basements, of about 1260 m², originally fitted out for the arrival of the cash conveyors:
Almost everything there are still original elements: travertine staircases, 20th-century tiled floors or mosaics; Freight elevators, secure doors, sorting rooms, safe rooms with armored shutters, armored doors, ladies and gentlemen's cloakrooms, staircase to the park level and its spaces with armored doors...
2) The park level, of about 1600 m², which customers accessed from the street side by an impressive stone staircase going up to the gates lined by oak doors, still armored, whose aesthetics did not detract from security:
· The most breathtaking room: the trading room, of about 650 m², under the spectacular glass roof _ 6 m high, with geometric patterns typical of the Decorative Arts _ the center of the room remains occupied by a horseshoe-shaped counter, covered with long gray marble slabs, and veneered on the outside by multiple shelves and boxes of raw oak. The centre of this workspace remains covered with Briare tiles forming a mosaic at its edges. On one side, the counters with secure windows keep watch, and in front of them, storage spaces and the account room, bordered by woodwork and beautiful blond oak cabinets, with drawers and sliding doors. At the back, large offices (with blond oak parquet floors and marble window sills), including those of the tellers, the treasurer; and the director, oval, whose view overlooks the park (85 m², integrated double glazing, manual shutters). Contemporary light fixtures blend in with style.
· Close to the elevator, "la Rotonde", a waiting room made entirely of dressed stone, tiled with mosaic, with oak benches under 4 m in height, and a diameter of 7.5 m.
· In addition to the tiled corridors, there is also the hall of honour on the paved courtyard side with its monumental travertine staircase (with wrought iron railings, with trompe-l'oeil plinths marbled under Nivernais stone), a magnificent reception office, in a classical style, flooded with woodwork, with a fireplace of rare carmine, dark grey marble, with white streaks.
Floor divided into two apartments of different luxury and sizes (724 m², height more than 4 m):
· The director's apartment on the right, in volumes designed to receive and impress (blond oak parquet floors): above the dome, *its large circular living room (7.50 m in diameter) with a central rose window and high arched French windows, opens onto the balcony overlooking the park to the west (communicating with *its vast reception hall) and onto an identical balcony above the street to the east; * Also in the hall: dining room 47.5 m², with herringbone parquet flooring and grey marble fireplace; * small living room 18 m² with herringbone parquet flooring and fireplace of rare yellow marble; * Large kitchen and small staff kitchen. The night area has 4 bedrooms with various marble fireplaces, 1 bathroom, 2 shower rooms and a toilet.
· The treasurer's apartment on the left (with small volumes and pitchpin parquet floors, distributed by the main staircase, and directly by the back stairway, opening onto the terrace on the park side, with a small balcony overlooking the street): * as for the first apartment, a large hall distributes the living rooms: * large oblong living room 6.5 m x 5.70 m (37 m², white marble woodwork and fireplace); * dining room (30 m² with grey marble fireplace, herringbone parquet flooring); *small living room 18 m², with pretty white marble fireplace and herringbone parquet flooring; * kitchen 15 m² with small scullery. Night area: * bedroom (18.5 m²) with bathroom and cupboards; * bedroom (14 m²) with shower room; * 2 bedrooms (27 and 22 m²); all with pretty marble fireplaces; *sanitary area: toilets; bathroom, linen room; corridor to toilet and 2 rooms with sinks…
